Ávila Rodríguez Rubén

Rubén Ávila Rodríguez (they/them) is a human rights advocate and is the head of the policy and research team at the International LGBTQI Youth & Student Organisation (IGLYO). Rubén also works as an Affiliated teacher at the Open University of Catalonia. As part of their role at IGLYO, they advocate for protecting and promoting LGBTQI youth rights (with a particular focus on inclusive education, health, and safety). They have implemented extensive work benchmarking legal and policy standards on LGBTQI inclusive education and facilitating best practice exchange between Council of Europe Member States. They regularly contribute to policy meetings, represent the organisation, and draft briefings and recommendations on issues concerning LGBTQI youth rights. Rubén also acts as IGLYO’s contact point for international institutions and organisations, such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Governmental Focal Points Network, the Council of Europe, UNESCO, and the UN Independent Expert on SOGI or the UN Youth Envoy.
